Sossusvlei – Land of the Sand Mountains

Few places on Earth, let alone Africa, can compare to Namibia’s unparalleled beauty and adventure. Here, in this small, wondrous country, countless experiences await – from the towering, majestic sand dunes, to the rush of wild rivers, to awe-inspiring canyons, and even the occasional oasis. So, whatever you seek – whether a thrilling adventure or a quiet getaway – countless Namibia guided tours are perfect for you! One of Namibia’s most magnificent offerings is Sossusvlei. The colossal dunes of Sossusvlei are not only well-known throughout Namibia but have become renowned worldwide. From space, these majestic megalithic mountains can be seen stretching far and wide, constantly shifting, creating a new tapestry of the desert landscape with each passing day. Although climbing up these sandy giants is hard, you’ll be rewarded with a spellbinding view of the Namib Desert. Select one of the many luxury Namibia tours to experience the best of this spectacular country with a touch of class that cannot be beaten. Dead-End-Marsh Namibia’s Sossusvlei, situated within the breath-taking Namib-Naukluft Park, is a paradise for photographers and painters alike due to its mind-boggling sand dunes standing as tall as 1000ft. Hues of red and orange, created over eons, fill the dunes with character and charm. The breath-taking contrast between these warm-toned mounds and the glistening white clay pans which lie at their feet is most spectacular when viewed at sunrise and sunset. Sossusvlei is a picture-perfect sight. The name translates to ‘dead-end-marsh,’ aptly describing its nature as a drainage basin for the Tsauchab river. A unique salt-rich crust has formed over time by the river’s infrequent overflow. A luxury Namibia safari, tailor-made for you, will ensure you see the best this dessert amphitheater offers. And without the crowds and tight, prescriptive schedule. Reasons to visit Sossusvlei on Your Namibia Private Tour Gaze at the scenery so incredible it must be seen to be believed The vast desert scape – Mother Nature’s masterpiece – stretches out before you in all its overwhelming glory. Rocky and desolate, the land is framed by rugged mountains, scattered with curious rock formations, and finally meeting the soaring terracotta dunes. Remote and lunar-like, this stark landscape blends together in perfect harmony, like an uninterrupted impressionist painting. Scale the Towering Peaks of The World’s Highest Dunes The Namib Desert is home to some of the Earth’s most extraordinary sand dunes. Whether you’re a daring explorer, a curious adventurer, or just looking for some childhood nostalgia, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Big Daddy and Dune 45 are some of the most popular spots, but with so many majestic peaks of varying heights, you’re sure to find a dune to your liking. Climb the highest peak, hike partway and slide down, or wander around the vlei and admire the incredible views of cascading dunes. Stare at the Infinite Stars that Dot the Night Sky In 2013, NamibRand Nature Reserve made history as Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve. It achieved a remarkable Gold Tier status – an accolade bestowed upon environments that boast an exceptionally low impact from artificial light. Located 90 miles from the nearest town, this impressive reserve boasts some of the darkest skies ever measured, free from the light pollution that plagues many other areas. Situated just outside Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, is a top-of-the-range observatory equipped with the mighty Meade LX200R 12-inch telescope – one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. With the guidance of an experienced resident astronomer, guests can get a close-up glimpse of the heavenly constellations and planets shimmering in the enchanting Namibian night sky. Sail the Sky and Marvel at the Majestic Beauty of The Dunes as The Sun Rises Do you ever feel like you need a reminder of how small and insignificant you are in this world? To have that humbling experience, jump in a hot air balloon and take in the beauty of the Namib Desert in an unforgettable 360° panorama. Wake up before dawn and take the trip to the launch site and as the sun rises, rise up with it and look at the jagged mountains protruding from the ever-changing dunes. Fly above a landscape untouched by time for millions of years and be left in awe. This is a popular option for lovebirds enjoying a Namibia honeymoon package. Explore the Desert and Find an Abundance of Life The Namib Desert, the oldest desert on Earth, would be expected to be barren and lifeless; however, it is alive with a multitude of life. The winds are to thank, as the easterly wind brings dust and debris that nourish the bugs and reptiles while the westerly wind brings much-needed moisture. Everywhere you look, the desert is busy with life, teeming with inquisitive critters and desert-dwelling plants. The dazzling display of desert flora (and fauna) is a testament to their incredible adaptability and resilience. From photogenic quiver trees blossoming in brilliant yellows to the mystifying Welwitschia plant living up to 1,500 years to the highly toxic false ink cap mushrooms, the desert is a miraculous place. Contemplate the Unsolved Puzzle of the Fairy Circles Mysterious and captivating fairy circles can be found scattered across the stark Namib Desert, defying explanation. Astonishingly, these grass-ringed patches always appear to be evenly spaced and never overlap, lending an enchanting air to the desolate landscape. Countless theories exist – from dragons breathing fire below the surface of the Earth to ostriches taking dust baths and underground plants competing for water. But whatever you believe, you a guaranteed to be enchanted. Why Wait? This is just a sample of what a luxury Namibia tour can offer you when you visit Soussusvlei. If you are looking for a similar experience and want to absorb the sights and sounds of the Namib in a way that cannot be matched, a luxury Namibia safari is a perfect choice. Stop imagining it. See it for yourself. Choose a specialized tour operator with excellent reviews to plan your luxury safari. This guarantees an authentic and immersive encounter.

Namibia allows you to converse with locals, learn about their culture and traditions, and hear the fascinating stories they have to share. Best Places to Experience The Culture in Namibia Twyfelfontein, Damaraland Tucked away in the northwest corner of Namibia lies the storied land of Damaraland, home to one of the nation’s most ancient cultural groups. Pushed out of their ancestral dwellings by the newly-arrived Nama and Herero people, the Damara were resettled in the Erongo region after independence. They found a haven in an arid landscape studded with trees and nourished by hidden subterranean waters. These sources of life sustain the Damara people, desert elephants, leopards, and springboks. Surrounded by ridges and domes of craggy, blistered rock formed by the power of heat and time, Twyfelfontein Valley is awash with crystal-studded stones that crunch beneath your feet. 560 million years old, these dome-shaped hills whisper tales of a people and an age long forgotten by the Damara. At first glance, the barren terrain may not appear hospitable. Still, it soon becomes apparent why this seemingly parched region – receiving only 150mm of rainfall annually – is a perfect home for the San people. The availability of a fresh-water spring, though not all-year-round, is the likely reason for the area’s name – Doubtful Fountain or Twyfelfontein – but the rocky overhangs and caves also provide invaluable protection from the elements and predators. Millennia ago, the climate of South America and Africa changed dramatically, transforming parts of the continent into barren deserts. In the Twyfelfontein valley, you can still find evidence of these ancient sand dunes, now eroded into bizarre shapes. What’s more, these rocks have provided an incredible canvas for prehistoric artists to work on. Unlike the vibrant paintings of their southern African relatives, these ancient San artists made use of stone as both the medium and the method for creating their art. With over 2000 rock engravings, this valley was deemed a National Monument in 1952 and has archaeological evidence of human habitation for at least 6,000 years. Damara Living Museum Make a stop at the Damara Living Museum your Namibia private tour. Embark on a fascinating journey and gain an invaluable insight into one of the oldest traditional cultures in Namibia. See ancient rock engravings and visit the nearly extinct Damara people as they attempt to preserve their almost-lost culture with a reconstructed traditional village at the foot of a boulder. As you wander through the quaint village, the women will be more than happy to guide you to the plants in the bush that are useful for food, medicine, and fragrances. The men, on the other hand, will demonstrate how to build a snare and light a fire the old-fashioned way. You will witness a lifestyle comprised of hunting and herding livestock, with some of the Damara turning to selling minerals for their livelihood. The Ovahimba Living Museum, Opuwo Located between the bustling capital of Opuwo and the heavenly Epupa Falls, the Ovahimba Living Museum is a place like no other. Here, visitors can actively experience the traditional culture of the Ovahimba, partake in the local children’s education, and participate in the routines of a traditional homestead. The Ovahimba are a vibrant people with a long-standing tradition of food production, crafting (forging, pottery, wood carving, leather tanning), building clay huts, singing and dancing – all of which are enthusiastically shared with guests. Mbunza Living Museum, Rundu Discover an out-of-the-ordinary place 14 kilometers west of the Kavango capital, Rundu: The Living Museum of the Mbunza – a unique combination of a traditional school and communal business. This sustainable project ensures the preservation of the local culture while providing an additional source of income. The Mbunza Living Museum at the Samsitu Lake is a remarkable example of Namibia’s Living Museums, providing visitors with a captivating glimpse into the traditional, pre-colonial culture of the Kavango, who have occupied this area for centuries.
Luxurious Africa – It’s The Little Things

As a South African, I am fortunate to say that I have often taken the African bush for granted. Without too much effort, opportunities have come my way. A wedding invitation at a game lodge, a family trip to the Kruger Park, a weekend in the Pilanesberg – all on my doorstep. And while I will never get over the thrill of happening upon a herd of grazing elephants or a pride of lions feasting on their latest kill, I didn’t realize how much more the African wild had to offer me. Enter my mother-in-law and a gifted getaway at a luxury safari lodge near Phalaborwa, South Africa. The luxury safari experience has always been on my bucket list, so we were thrilled to take her up on her offer at a top-rated luxury lodge. It was here that I realized what I was missing. And yes, the luxurious tent with a water hole view was exquisite, and the gourmet meals prepared by a skilled chef were delectable. But the little things made me fall in love with my country all over again. “If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa.” John Hemingway There is something unmistakable and truly magnificent about the smell of the African bush in the early morning. And when you wake up in an isolated luxury tent, the silence is broken only by the sound of the wild. I would spend my mornings sipping coffee, watching a mother warthog march her young to the waterhole for a quick drink before disappearing into the bush – somewhat resembling a remote-controlled car – their tails upright like an aerial. I listened to the birdlife greeting each other and played peek-a-boo with young vervets frolicking in the trees beside my porch. The only word to explain it is ‘peace.’ The purest peace I have known. One evening, I cooled down in the beautifully designed swimming pool, sipping a drink and gazing out at the watering hole. I had an incredibly intimate encounter with two young elephant bulls. It was the sound of their tusks clashing that caught my attention. I looked to see them engaged in a scuffle, each trying to tell the other who was boss. Oblivious to my presence, they hashed it out for about an hour before agreeing to disagree and enjoying a refreshing drink. I would meet these two youngsters again the following morning. My Private Slice of Heaven in Africa Before I relate my subsequent encounter, I have to give context. My big-5 game drive experiences have always involved an overcrowded vehicle and a strict, predetermined route and schedule. Searching for a fleet of cars was the only way to tell where something interesting had been spotted, and I’d have to crane my neck or raise my camera above my head to get a decent photo. The luxury private safari experience was something entirely different. It was life-affirming. Not only did we have the vehicle to ourselves, our guide, Thomas, was incredible. I have never met someone with such an innate knowledge and understanding of the African bush. We were not on a clock. We weren’t following a pre-determined route. We went where the land took us. Thomas could spot a spoor from 10 meters, know the species, gender, and age of said spoor maker, and knew exactly where it went. I saw things I could never have imagined. And that’s where my two young bull elephants reenter the scene. They had put all differences aside and were casually strolling along when they found another young bull. We were already watching him bully a pair of rhinos at a watering hole. He was in musk, and highly agitated, furious at the audacity of the rhino brothers’ attempt to drink beside him. The rhinos were having none of it and put the youngster in his place, causing him to sulk on the other side. The two young elephants approached the watering hole and sensed their fellow pachiderms’ distress. They walked over to him and placed their trunks around him. I could almost hear them whispering reassurances and talking him through some breathing exercises. Like magic, he relaxed completely, and sipped at his morning refreshment in quiet companionship. It was indescribably beautiful, and I felt so privileged to witness such a private moment between these sentient beasts. “In Africa, you have space… there is a profound sense of space here, space and sky.” Thabo Mbeki As we drove away, Thomas told us of a secret spot we could travel to, to enjoy our morning coffee. He took the Land Cruiser up a steep incline to a clearing that looked out over the reserve, all the way to the Kruger Park. I felt like Rafiki in the opening scene of the Lion king, standing proudly, gazing down on the splendor. And still, all I could hear was peace. A city girl doesn’t get much of that. It brought me to tears. I could write a book about all the fantastic experiences Thomas shared with us. Everything was unique and intimate, from slowly driving alongside a pride of hunting lionesses to watching the young Impala practice their morning pronking (it’s a word). I never realized the stories one could tell just by looking at a tree trunk or an abandoned anthill. I didn’t know birds knew how much rain the season would bring long before any weatherman. They would build their nests exactly above where they anticipated the flood line. I saw a giraffe fetus wriggling in its mother’s belly and knew, thanks to my guide’s incredible knowledge, that she would be a mother by the following sunset. And after each morning and evening adventure, my luxurious peace of heaven awaited. That perfect haven where I could put up my feet and absorb the peace. My soul awakened in a way I never thought possible, and I saw the world through new eyes. If you are looking for a similar experience and want to

My African Dream – Why my Luxury Namibia Safari was the Experience of a Lifetime

Written by Connie Kakalia, Jewel of Africa Client. ‘Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer.’ UnknownAfter Covid put her travel plans on hold, Connie Kakalia finally took her dream vacation in Southern Africa in June with her husband, Dave Gregson. Connie’s home is in Kauai, Hawaii, and she is known for her adventurous spirit. As a seasoned globetrotter, Connie tasted Africa when she experienced the Serengetti a few years ago. Naturally, she expected a similar experience this time around. After all, Africa is Africa, right? Well, she couldn’t have been more wrong. She shares her thoughts on her life-changing 21-day luxury Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe safari that was prepared for her by Neil at Jewel of Africa. Which Africa countries did you visit? We spent 12 days in Namibia before popping to Cape Town in South Africa for 2 nights. We then jetted off to Botswana for a couple of nights and ended our trip at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. How did your friends and family react? Many people that live in Kauai aren’t native to Hawaii. They were born in the continental USA and came here on vacation. Once here, they fell in love with the tropical paradise and chose to make the bold move. So, for the most part, many of my friends who live close by have an adventurous spirit. As a result, they were envious and excited about my trip. Three of them have already planned to go after seeing my photos. However, my more conservative friends and family were nervous about my trip. They said they would never want to go to Africa. Most have never heard of Namibia, and some have never heard of Botswana or Zimbabwe. They were particularly concerned about the animals and the danger one would be in. But I reiterated that I felt completely safe at all times. We had seasoned guides armed with rifles to scare off any animals that came too close, and we were escorted to and from our tents. Of course, the resorts were ultra-luxurious and extremely secure. Anyone who avoids experiencing a safari trip like this is robbing themselves of a life-changing adventure. Which African country stood out to you most while on safari? Namibia, without question. It was not just a destination but a mystical experience. We somehow managed to see some of the most remote locations on earth and felt like we were the only people around for miles. You have never truly heard silence or seen stars until you have visited Namibia. It is a collection of awe-inspiring landscapes, desert wildlife, ancient artifacts, and beautiful, hospitable people that come together to create the ultimate experience. So, your luxury Namibia experience was your ultimate destination. Oh my goodness, where do I start? The best way I can describe it is to say that Namibia is not just a place you visit – it is a profoundly spiritual experience. Namibia offers pure peace and solace if you want to escape the world’s craziness. You step out of your luxury Namibia safari lodge, and after an hour or so in a Jeep, you feel like you are in an uninhabited land. The vastness is indescribable. The golden sand dunes roll on for miles, and nothing separates them from the clear blue sky. And the stars! At night, it’s like your own personal universe has been set up just for you. We visited the Skeleton coast – miles and miles of ocean lining the desert. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Then there are the shipwrecks, all whispering the stories of sailors who set out centuries before to discover new trade routes. It’s fascinating. As I mentioned, I had been to the Serengeti, so I thought I knew what to expect. I was so wrong. The wildlife is perfectly adapted to the desert, and you see desert giraffes, zebra, and antelope throughout. Some lucky visitors to the Skeleton coast have witnessed the rare desert lions exclusive to Namibia. They roam the beaches and hunt seals and water birds. Seeing Namibia’s desert elephants is a breathtaking experience. These majestic creatures have adapted to the toughest conditions, making them so special. Seeing any elephants in the wild is awe-inspiring and humbling, but a sighting of the desert elephants of Namibia is beyond the extraordinary. There are vast distances that separate one Namibia safari lodge from the next. One of the best parts of having a Namibia Private Guided Tour was that we had a pilot take us from one safari lodge to the next. This would sometimes be a two-hour flight, but do you know what an inconceivably incredible experience it is to witness the desert from the sky? You see parts that are entirely untouched or unexplored by humans. It’s indescribable. I have never been so moved or so overwhelmed by such beauty. It is life-changing. What would you say to a fellow travelers? Just do it! You will never regret it. There is nothing like it in the world. Stop imagining that desert sky. See it for yourself. Choosing a specialized tour operator to plan your luxury Namibia experience is the best decision you can make, guaranteeing an authentic and immersive encounter. Unveiling the Hidden Splendor of Africa – My Journey

Written by Neil De Jonge, Operations Manager of Jewel of Africa Safaris. An African proverb says, ‘To get lost is to learn the way’. Getting lost is simply a different way of going on an adventure. When you’re lost, it is an opportunity to learn how to find yourself and listen to your thoughts, your inner being, and other people. It’s a journey to self-discovery. I learned this at a very young age and have made it my life’s work to help others embrace the adventure that comes with exploring the world and unveiling the hidden splendor of Africa. A Young Boy’s Awakening in Africa I have always been a nature lover and was born into a family passionate about the African bush, breathtaking landscapes, and all the wonderful creatures that call it home. My first trip to the Kruger National Park was when I was only a few months old, so it is a part of me. And while it is the perfect place to start if you want a taste of Africa, it is merely the tip of the iceberg. Where else in the world can you see the Big Five just a few hours away from a sprawling city or feel the spray of the spectacular Victoria Falls as you enjoy a sundowner at a luxury lodge? Then, there is the indescribable beauty of Namibia. A land where the amber desert sand meets the icy, crystal blue Atlantic, and the sand dunes tower up to 40 meters high. From its southernmost point in South Africa’s Cape to the lush grandeur of the Okavango Delta, Africa’s bountiful wonders will never cease to amaze me. When I was 14 years old, I visited Skukuza in Kruger Park with my family. I was quietly contemplating the tranquility of the Sabie River when I spotted a young bushbuck. A Cape bushbuck is a magnificent creature with a glossy, chocolate-brown coat, a white patch of fur on its throat, and majestic, spiraling horns. Its large, expressive eyes are deep brown, adding to its gentle and wise presence. That said, they are a common species, and this was one of many that I had encountered in my life. After a while, a group of tourists came upon the river. Bushbuck are excellently camouflaged and difficult to spot if you don’t know what you are looking for. I motioned for one of the tourists to come to me and pointed to the silent creature eyeing me with its sharp gaze. When the tourist’s eyes finally caught sight of the antelope, he became giddy with excitement. He frantically called to the rest of the tour group, who joined us and were blown away at seeing something so commonplace for me that I took it for granted. They were overwhelmed with gratitude, shaking my hand, and thanking me profusely for sharing my find. That simple, beautiful moment was a pivotal point in my life. That evening around the fire, I told my parents I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I wanted to take people into the bush. I wanted to show them the beauty of the African wilderness and see their delight when encountering a creature they had never laid eyes on before – or even knew existed. Living the African Dream Fast forward a few years. I wanted nothing more than to study tourism and was fortunate enough to have my parents send me to university. I received an honors degree in tourism management and was soon ready to take on the world. Equally enamored with the bush, my father had just started Jewel of Africa, and I joined him soon after. Together, we discovered ways to show visitors the best Africa offers. Luxury Namibia Tours, opulent Okovango Delta escapes, and Gorilla experiences in the rainforests of Uganda – are just some of the life-changing packages we put together. There is a saying that if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. And while I am indeed extremely busy, it is a huge privilege to do something that truly matters to me. My true passion is showing people the beauty and the secrets of Africa. I want to share the incredible things that I have seen. Whenever I discover something new, I am overwhelmed with the excitement of sharing my find with others. This, together with my innate need to explore and my love of people, operating and eventually owning Jewel of Africa was nothing short of a dream job. When you take someone from a busy metropolis and place them in the vast Namib Desert at night, I can guarantee they have never seen so many stars. Seeing them gaze in wonder and knowing that somewhere inside them, a profoundly deep, spiritual experience is taking place. Likewise, a Namibia private tour will awaken something inside you that you never imagined was there. I’m grateful for what I do. My adventures have uncovered some of the most beautiful places on Earth. I often wonder how many of my clients experience their pivotal moments while staring at an African sunset. “I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy.” Ernest Hemingway
Why A Specialized Tour Operator Should Customize Your Luxury Namibia Tour

Imagine yourself gazing at a vast, desert night sky awash with ancient stars, or sipping your morning coffee on a private deck overlooking the majestic dunes of Sossusvlei. A luxury Namibia safar and tour will offer you these incredible experiences and much more than you could ever imagine. For centuries, travelers have been drawn to Namibia by its dramatic landscapes, rich culture, and fascinating wildlife. It is a destination that is best seen to be believed, and few places in the world offer the same kind of awe-inspiring experience. Namibia is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes – from the abyss of the Namibian Fish River Canyon to the crystal clear waters of the Skeleton Coast. But how can you be sure you will get the best possible luxury Namibia safari and tour experience, completely tailored to everything you imagined? The best answer is to contact a tour operator that creates bespoke tours designed to meet your specific needs and requirements. This way, you can experience Namibia exactly how you imagined it – without settling for “packaged items” that aren’t right for you. Why a Dedicated Tour Operator is the Smartest Choice Although pre-arranged Namibia guided tours are incredibly popular, they have a few down sides. While it is true that they can provide everything you need to explore the country at face value, crowds of tourists on pre-packaged tours can make for a less-than-authentic – and not-so-fun – experience. This is why choosing the right tour operator for your Namibia private tour is essential. So many companies are clambering to recover from the COVID pandemic and promise the world. But very few can truly live up to their promise of creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience and offering you the essential personal touch. Discover the Best of Namibia With an Expert Guide One of the most significant advantages of booking a tour with a professional tour operator is that you can expect to experience Namibia at its most authentic – not like just another tourist. An experienced guide, focused solely on your needs will draw on their years of experience to help you craft the best possible itinerary. Make sure your operator specializes in luxury tours, because with budget travel, you’ll miss out on many of the fantastic things only luxury tour operators can offer. You should also ensure that the operator you book your tour with is highly experienced and has excellent reviews. Define Your Own Luxury On its own, the word “luxury” can be misleading. Many people believe that going on a luxury tour means staying in five-star hotels, eating at exclusive restaurants, and constantly being guided from one site to the next. Although this type of tour is often marketed as luxurious, it may not be the right choice for everyone – especially those who would rather get to know the country and its people. A luxury tour should be tailored to meet the needs of each individual or group. That means that the hotels you stay in, the restaurants you eat at, and the pace of the trip are all customized – just for you. Rise to the Occasion A bespoke, luxury tour also means your experience of Namibia will suit the occasion. For example, a couple choosing one of the Namibia honeymoon packages is looking for something very different from those on an intergenerational family reunion trip. Gain Access to Exclusive Accommodation One of the best things about booking a customized, luxury tour is access to unique and exclusive places that don’t necessarily allow day-tour visitors. For example, you can stay in an ultra-luxurious tented Namibia safari lodge that overlooks the magnificent Etosha National Park or unwind at a remote lodge in Sossusvlei, where you can marvel at the spectacular sand dunes up close. That’s certainly more appealing than staying in generic hotels and hostels where you’ll be surrounded by tour buses and chatter. You Determine the Length Of Your Holiday Finally, if your tour operator knows how long you’d like to stay, they can help you find the best way to fit everything in. Of course, if you’re on a shorter trip, you’ll want to make every minute count, so you’ll focus on the highlights. But you can also choose to explore the beauty and splendor at your leisure – the best way to experience the hidden gem that Namibia is. Stop imagining that desert sky. See it for yourself. Choosing a specialized tour operator to plan your luxury Namibia Safarand tour is the best decision you can make, guaranteeing an authentic and immersive encounter. If you’re ready for your own custom-made, luxury experience in magnificent Namibia, contact Jewel of Africa Safaris to start designing your dream adventure today.

In Africa and even the world, few places have as much to offer as Namibia. This small country is home to jaw-dropping natural beauty, unique wildlife, and incredible outdoor activities that are perfect for anyone looking for a thrill. From the enormous, majestic sand dunes to rushing rivers, waterfalls, awe-inspiring canyons, and even the occasional oasis, there’s something exciting and unexpected around every corner. Whether you want an adventure of a lifetime or just to escape stress for a while, there are countless Namibia guided tours for you to choose from. Select one of the many luxury Namibia tours to experience the best of this spectacular country with a touch of class that cannot be beaten. Go on a Desert Safari Regardless of which Namibia private tour or luxury Namibia safari and tour you pick, be sure it includes a desert safari. It is an experience like no other. You’ll pass towering, golden dunes that seem to go on for miles, herds of elephants roaming the sparse plains, and perhaps a lazy lion lounging in the shade. You’ll also get to meet the friendly locals in Namibia’s desert towns and see the unique architecture of these remote communities. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a rare desert oryx, one of the many unique animals that call Namibia home. Hike the Skeleton Coast The Skeleton Coast is one of Namibia’s most peaceful and magnificent places. Littered with the skeletons of shipwrecks, the coastline is a haunting reminder of the many lives lost at sea. The peaceful Skeleton Coast is one of the few places on earth where you can almost guarantee you’ll be alone. There is something almost spiritual about seeing the sprawling orange desert meet the crystal blue Atlantic. Some visitors have even been lucky to spot the rare desert lions strolling along the beach. Drive the Famous Dunes of Sossusvlei The Dunes of Sossusvlei aren’t just Namibia’s most famous sand dunes; they’re some of the most famous in the world. These megalithic-type giants can be seen from space and constantly shift, creating new landscapes as time passes by. So, while hiking these sandy mountains is arduous, you will be rewarded with a stunning view of the Namib Desert. Dune 45, one of Namibia’s most popular tourist destinations, is approximately 40 meters high and perfect for witnessing an unforgettable African sunset. This is a definite must for any luxury Namibia safari and tour. Walk Among the Colossal Rock Formations of the Erongo Mountains If you’re a fan of hiking and beautiful scenery, then you’ll love the Erongo Mountains. This range of colossal rock formations is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The best way to experience these breath-taking structures is by following one of the many trails. The Otjihavera Trail, in particular, leads you past wild orchids and rare plants and gives you an up-close look at the monoliths. If you have time, you can also follow the Skeleton Gorge Trail to experience one of the most scenic waterfalls in the country. With a wide variety of hiking trails and a view that’s hard to beat, the Erongo Mountains are a must-visit for anyone who loves adventure. Look out for one of many Namibia guided tours if you want to make the most of your experience, and be sure not to miss anything. Stargaze Under the Desert Sky The Namib Desert is one of the world’s best places to stargaze and the perfect reprieve from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world, is just one of Namibia’s many desert landscapes that seems like it was built for stargazing. Namibia’s clear desert skies will let you see more stars than you ever thought possible. If you want to take your stargazing experience up a notch, you can spend even a night under the desert sky at a Namibia safari lodge. Explore The Scenery in a Hot-Air Balloon There’s simply no better way to see the Namib Desert than in a hot air balloon. Most of Namibia’s deserts are so far from civilization that you can’t really appreciate them from the ground. However, from high above the desert, you’ll be able to marvel at the desert’s beauty and truly appreciate Namibia’s vast landscapes like never before. Namibia Honeymoon Packages often include a hot air balloon experience that epitomizes romance and is the stuff that memories are made of. If you are looking for an addition to your bucket list, Namibia is a hidden gem worthy of even the most discerning traveler’s itinerary. And if you enjoy the finer things, there are options to tailor-make your own bespoke, luxury Namibia experience. Namibia offers an experience that can’t be replicated anywhere else. Choose an operator whose reviews speak for themselves to ensure you get the best luxury Namibia safari that money can buy. Stop imagining that desert sky. See it for yourself. Choosing a specialized tour operator to plan your luxury Namibia safari and tour is the best decision you can make, guaranteeing an authentic and immersive encounter. If you’re ready for your own custom-made, luxury experience in magnificent Namibia, contact Jewel of Africa Safaris to start designing your dream adventure today.

Around every corner lies something else to discover and to gaze at in awe. Read on to discover our top Namibia attractions that must be included in your luxury safari itinerary. We also share some insider tips on where to go and what to do for an exceptional luxury Namibia safari experience. Sossusvlei: Marvel at the Breath-taking Scenery The Namib-Naukluft National Park is your luxury safari gateway to the world’s oldest living desert, the Namib Desert, and the world’s highest dunes. The iconic Sossusvlei is situated in the National Park within the central Namib dunes. Rise early for your morning excursion into the Park, where countless dunes of differing heights will surround you, but most people flock to the world-famous Big Daddy and Dune 45. Here you can climb the highest peak to watch the sunrise, hike partway and slide down, or wander around the vlei below, admiring the cascading dunes in all their glory. At the foot of Big Daddy is the hauntingly beautiful Dead Vlei or ‘dead marsh.’ It is a picture-perfect, haunting graveyard of spooky tree skeletons that pokes out from the most picturesque, cracked white clay. Besides going on a dune and vlei adventure, you can also search for and discover life in the desert during guided nature walks and drives, quad-biking, and birding, for a more varied desert luxury safari experience. Insider’s Tip: Get an eagle-eye view of the desert and dunes from above as you take to the skies in a hot-air balloon. An early-morning luxury hot-air balloon flight offers the perfect vantage point over the red dunes at sunrise as you slowly soar over them. Other recommended activities include nature walks, nature drives, helicopter flights, quad biking, stargazing, and more. Swakopmund: Namibia’s (German) Adventure Safari Capital Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert on the western coast, Swakopmund is a one-of-a-kind town along your luxury African safari journey. This is Namibia’s adventure safari capital and a surreal colonial remnant. It is also the ideal place to start or end your exploration of the Skeleton Coast and the Namib Desert. This town has lots of character and incredible ocean views as it retains a strong German flavor – from its cobbled streets and picturesque buildings to typical German restaurants and pubs serving German cuisine. Swakopmund is perfect for relaxing after a few days in the desert to wash off the Namib sand and sample renowned Swakopmund fare, including German specialties. Adventure safari activities will allow adventure-seekers to explore the coast and desert during their stay, including the nearby town of Walvis Bay. Insider’s Tip: Book an exciting and immersive eco-conscious Living Desert Tour and discover the tiny creatures of the Namib during a memorable 4×4 trip into the dune belt just south of Swakopmund. Join us as we track chameleons, snakes, skinks, scorpions, lizards, geckos, and other small creatures, and learn more about the area’s fantastic desert ecology.Skeleton Coast: Wildly Remote Shipwrecks and Seals Few luxury safari attractions are as evocative and atmospheric as the haunting Skeleton Coast. It is named after the skeletons of stranded whales that can be seen here and the many ships that sank here over the past few centuries. The rusted remains of wrecked ships are often surrounded by swirling mists and make for moody and dramatic visuals. The Skeleton Coast, a protected nature area, is also home to the flourishing Cape Cross seal colony, one of the largest breeding colonies of Cape fur seals. Sandwich Harbour, 56km south of Walvis Bay, is one of the most dramatic sights in Namibia – dunes up to 100m-high plunge into the Atlantic, which washes into the picturesque lagoon. The harbor is now deserted and devoid of any human settlement. Birdwatchers will have a field day here with half and full-day trips that can be booked here. Despite its hostile character, if you are lucky, you can see several wild animals in the Skeleton Coast dunes, including desert-adapted lions, elephants, brown hyenas, black-backed jackals, giraffes, and oryx. Insider’s Tip: A luxury safari stay within the Skeleton Coast is easily accessible by charter flight from Swakopmund. You can also book a guided scenic flight over the entire Skeleton Coast – you will pass over the shifting dunes, the Cape fur seals, and a couple of century-old shipwrecks up to Sandwich Harbour, a Ramsar wetland of international importance. Time is also spent flying over Walvis Bay and its salt mines which attract thousands of birds. Spitzkoppe: Magical Mountain Hideaway with Boulders & Caves Spitzkoppe (“Matterhorn of Namibia”), one of the most photographed mountains in Namibia, is a group of bald granite peaks located northeast of Swakopmund in the Namib Desert. These prominent peaks, more than 120 million years old, stand out dramatically from the flat plains surrounding them. This is one of the most beautiful and striking places to visit in Namibia during your luxury safari. This is a true paradise for any hiker, climber, geologist, or stargazer, and a visit here will be truly worth your while. Your luxury stay at Spitzkoppe is about the prospect of viewing, photographing, and possibly climbing all the different peaks, boulders, and outcrops. The Rock Arch is an exceptionally famous rock formation and one of the most striking to be found here. The views from the top are breathtaking, and enjoying the sunrise or sunset here, high above the Earth, is an absolute must. Other activities include guided or self-guided cycling tours, mountain hiking, and stargazing safaris.
